The clutch fails to engage, preventing the compressor from circulating refrigerant.
Possible Cause: Electrical failure, low refrigerant, or a faulty clutch coil.
Clicking or Chattering: Weak engagement causes repeated snapping.
Grinding or Squealing: Worn bearings or a damaged clutch plate.
Rattling: Loose or broken clutch components.
The center of the clutch pulley should rotate when the A/C is activated.
If it remains stationary, the clutch may be electrically or mechanically faulty.
Overheating due to excessive slipping or electrical shorts in the clutch coil.
May indicate a seized compressor or failing clutch bearing.
Worn Friction Surface: Glazed or uneven clutch plate.
Corrosion or Oil Contamination: Leaking refrigerant or oil damages clutch components.
The clutch engages and disengages randomly due to:
Weak electrical connections
Faulty pressure switch
Overheating clutch coil
A seized clutch or misaligned pulley can cause belt damage.
Check for power at the clutch connector (12V when A/C is on).
Inspect the air gap between the clutch plate and pulley (should be within specs).
Listen for unusual noises when engaging/disengaging.
